ISSUE #01 - NEW WEB

so about that webmastery…

here i am! back on this website and doing a major update with it for the first time since february of 2023, which is absurd to think about. this in particular has been in the works for the past few months. i wanted to get the site into a state where even if it takes me a while to do more big updates, i still have all the infrastructure for putting up my writing once or twice a month, before i debuted the whole thing on neocities. (i actually had to sit myself down and force myself to cut down the initial scope of that badly or else this thing would be out NEXT year!!)

so what’s new?

  • my about page has a whole new look, and a broader swath of the media (and recipes…) that have informed my taste (figurative & literal). plus it actually has an about me section, which i forgot i never had on the original. everyone say goodnight to my sweet GIFYPET, genesis, born 04-2022 died 05-2026 – it doesn’t quite fit anywhere anymore, and i really dislike the audio elements, so my sweet black cat is retired. maybe one day i’ll get a little tribute to him. (the tamanotchi now live on my index! one of them evolved past the tamagotchi casing while i was working on this page, which was a shock.)

  • the library has replaced my original writing page, and now actually has some writing of mine instead of just being a short look at some of my projects (though the project overviews are still there!) it’s currently split into the ‘information desk’, which gives a top-down look at my work, and the ‘card catalog’, which is a blog-esque feed of my work with an index sorted by subject.

  • the logbook, which is an entirely new page for stuff like this! i’m sick of social media, i want to put longform posts & reviews & thoughts somewhere else, and the somewhere else is here. it currently features three series: pawprints, for personal thoughts & musings; cookie walk, a monthly look at the newest cookie run kingdom updates and thoughts about new features & story; and tessarae, a monthly media log of what i’ve been reading/watching/playing. mostly reading, at the moment.

a closer look at the logbook

this series in particular is named pawprints after the ‘paws on parchment’ exhibit that was at the walters art museum in baltimore from aug 2025–feb 2026. it “[explored] how medieval people thought about, engaged with, and admired cats through the animals’ presence in manuscripts from the period”[1] and i had the luck to be in town at the time & able to visit and see it. genuinely a treasure. a lot of the time i feel more like a cat walking across the manuscript with my inky paws rather than like, the bloke writing the manuscript. also i think it’s cute.

cookie walk is for the myriad thoughts i have about pretty much every cookie run: kingdom update. i treat crk like everything else i play, which means i like doing story analysis and evaluating what works & what doesn’t on a gameplay + writing basis even if a lot of the decisions that the team makes are clearly rooted in the typical gacha game design ethos. there’s only so much you can expect, but i like thinking about what could be. i’ve been playing for five years now & it turns out that’s a lot of time to form strong opinions about what constitutes good minigame design

tessarae is what it says on the tin: monthly media logs, some with short reviews included. named after the pieces that make up mosaics! i’ve been trying to keep track of things in my planner, this year, since i read so much that things can slip through the cracks even if they’re logged on my storygraph.

i also want to write longer critiques and reviews and throw them up here—in particular with the recent release of tomodachi life living the dream i’ve been thinking about how unsatisfied i am with it and why, but also i want to play more indie games & then talk about them so other people can check them out. i’ve played a lot of rhell: warped worlds & troubled times this month, which is a delightful if clunky puzzle game that i’d love to recommend to other folks who enjoyed things like scribblenauts, if only so that they can help me with some of these gdamn story objectives. (as is the problem with a lot of niche puzzles games, when you get stuck you REALLY get stuck, because there’s no guides out there. to figure out one puzzle in particular i ended up watching half of a 20 minute any% speedrun which made my jaw drop.) (i like the idea of becoming the sort of person who writes and posts guides to indie games as well, but i’m not very good at them… much to consider.)

hopes & dreams of the website

besides the initial goal of “i want to update it somewhat regularly”, there are a few larger pages i have in mind, most of which were part of my initial scope that i ended up setting aside:

  • spectrepedia, a fake fanwiki for the minecraft roleplay server i’ve been in for a few years. squidknees’ ‘pedia template (+ the awesome wiki for their personal project, oneiropedia) have been a huge inspiration for this. i want a couple pages before i add it to this site publicly, though, and considering that every page is compiling literal years of lore and writing… suffice to say there is a lot of work to be done!!

  • some kind of page for all the OTHER original characters i have meandering around my brain—possibly hotel starfall, an idea i’ve had for a few years of framing such an oc page as an extradimensional hotel that all of my ocs are staying at, possibly with interactive elements? at the very least i want to get down biographies for them. the mystery can come later

  • as i mention on my library page, i eventually want to make up whole pages for a lot of my creative projects, especially spillways, which is such an involved alternate universe of cookie run that i feel like it needs a whole wiki on its own. (my shirt that says “the canon cookie run kingdom timeline is a convoluted bullshit nightmare that they can never fix without fucking up everything” raises a lot of questions answered by my t-shirt, etc.)

  • i collect playing cards and one day YOU will be able to see all of them, somewhere. i want to make a little directory of them that includes the card backs + my favorite face cards. some of them are boring and those will also be included!! not all playing cards can be beautiful works of art but they are all beautiful, to me
